Japanese chipmaker Toshiba announced on June 16 the rollout of a new NAND flash memory chips based on 32nm process technology. Toshiba's new chip enables a maximum memory capacity of 128 GB (Gigabyte), which is larger than any flash memory chips currently available, according to a press release by Toshiba on June 16. This 128GB memory - consolidated 16 64Gbit, equivalent to 8GB, NAND chips - can be used in a wide variety of digital consumer products, including Smartphones, tablet PCs, and DSCs (Digital Still Cameras). Toshiba stated that samples of 128GB chips will be available in September, 2010, with the mass production expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to the same source.

 

Furthermore, samples of Toshiba's another NAND flash memory with a memory capacity of 64GB are expected to begin shipment in August, 2010, while the mass production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2010 as well.
